The Return Home

Post by Dyten Gryn on Sun May 22, 2011 7:26 am

Dyten Gryn had been gone a year, travelling the country side at his own will in his wolf form away from the pack. He had taken his over due holiday and was ready to get back to business in the war, his claws dug into the earth as he ripped through the underbrush of the forest. He jumped a fallen log with ease and dodged the trees that seemed to be reaching for him, his nose was picking up the familiar scents of the older pack leaders but picked up a lot of new ones. His ears pricked as he picked up a noise close by, it was a youngster. They probably thought he was a threat, they were signalling the others on guard.

Picking up his speed, he bolted for the manor. Here we go again.

Owen frowned as he smelled a vaguely familiar scent. Was it...? Could it be...? He changed into wolf form and ran for the door to see if his nose was right. He paused in surprise as his bright blue eyes met that of the other wolf's.

His eyes said it all.

"You're back."

Dyten's legs were powerful as his paws pounded against the hard dirt, propelling him forward with the youngsters still hot on his heels. He remembered the days that he had guard duty and mentally commended them for their dedication. At least the standards hadn't slacked while he was away. As he came into the inner part of the manor, he came face to face out on the lawn with a pair of vaguely familiar blue eyes. You're back. they seemed to read, he gave a nod and stood up tall.

Dyten was wary because he had been in his wolf form longer than recommended by Rick, he had taken on the personality of a rogue wolf which meant he was unpredictable and easily agitated. With a month or so of being in human form, he'd go back to his usual playful self.

Owen tailed Dyten for a while, still unsure how to react. It had been a while - a whole year, to be exact - since they last saw each other. He knew Dyten had left to take a break for a while, but he wondered if he stayed in wolf form the whole time he was gone. And another thing came to mind with his return. Does it mean that he'd be ready to go back to fighting in the war once again?

He patiently followed Dyten around for a while, unsure how and when to start a conversation.

Dyten stayed still as the other male circled him, gauging how dangerous he could be towards the pack. The thing was, Dyten was deadly as he was Rick's right hand man after all who needed a break. The war was still on, he knew that much but he had heard information while in his roaming that only Rick should know about. Technically, as he wasn't back in the pack just yet he didn't have the mental connection to communicate.

"What's your name again mate?" he growled deeply, not aggressive or menacing as he flicked his tail and shook out his fur. Dirt dropped from the outer layers, his ears flicked around as he picked up the noises. The youngsters had stopped on the edge of the lawn, letting their elder with the blue eyes take control of the situation.

[I'm actually picturing a proper wolf, not the thing from Underworld...or from Harry Potter... also, if we're doing a timeline... I was running, you met me on the front lawn outside the manor and now you're circling me... yes?]

Owen turned to the youngsters and dismissed them with a curt, He's an ally. He knew Dyten wouldn't have heard it, seeing as he has yet to meet with Rick.

"What's your name again mate?"

"Name's Owen," replied the blue-eyed wolf, pausing in front of Dyten. "Owen Slater." He blinked a couple of times, not exactly exerting his dominance, but not submitting either. "And you must be Dyten Gryn, or did I get your scent wrong?"

[yup and know I'm standing in front of you]

Dyten nodded, not submitting or showing his dominance either. Technically, if he wasn't in the pack then he was seen as a possible threat to the alpha, Rick.

"That's right," Dyten replied, his ice blue eyes following Owen's moves carefully. He had heard faint information about Owen and how strong he was as a fighter, was it true that he took out 8 vamps and come out with only a couple of scratches?

"What's new on the grapevine?" he asked casually, sitting down and taking in the smells of his old home.

Owen watched as the male sat down and asked what was new. He didn't sit, mostly because he had been doing so for most of the day already.

"The usual," replied Owen, lazily flicking his tail. "There are new wolves, Rick's still the Alpha, I'm still alive, everyone still wants to kill vampires, other species decided they want in on the war..." He paused and thought of anything else to add and came up with none. "And you? Anything new?" He asked lazily, but still sure to subtly keep his senses alert and ready to attack, should anything happen. After all, Dyten is a rogue wolf, even if he was once Rick's right hand.

"Not much, just roamed most of America... avoided Vampires unless they crossed my path and stopped me from going where ever I was venturing. I went on a Vamp spree, killing off newborns as soon as they rose just to amuse myself for a few months. It was a good year, very productive if I say so myself..." Dyten snuffed, picking up the scent of one woman he hated.

"Don't tell me she's still here, Cindy is the biggest slut out there..." he snarled, his eyes becoming alert as the scent got stronger, wafting on the wind.

Owen closed his eyes and growled in irritation as he too caught whiff of the scent. Cindy wasn't exactly his least favorite person - that was reserved for vampires - but she wasn't his most favorite, either.

"She's still here, alive and breathing..." He said. As an afterthought, he added in a whisper, "Sadly." He glanced at the girl for a moment, not bothering to acknowledge her, before turning back to Dyten. "I'm afraid Rick's a little busy at the moment. So you'll have to wait a while before meeting up with him."

Elle looked up from the piano as she smelled something. Someone. Someone new. She glared and snarled, stepping hesitantly towards the door. She changed so her nose would get a better scent. Wolf... Male... But no one she knew. She'd only been a wolf for two months. She could smell Owen though and started worrying. She began to pace. What to do?

She nudged the door open with her nose and paws and started running, noticing Owen seeming fine. She slowed to a creep behind Owen and peered around him, brushing her fur against the man. She was a small white wolf, she was told that she'd probably be permanently small, but always rowdy.

"Owen... Who is that?" She growled, her ears and tail perked, alert.

Dyten watched as a small white wolf came up to them, he remained in his calm sitting position. Another youngster. He remained quiet though tempted to show her who she was, he decided to step in before Owen could speak.

"Have you ever heard of a man called Dyten Gryn? The right hand man of Rick? It was said he had a wolfish grin on his face each time he made a kill." Dyten said, his body alert and tense.. ready to take out the small female if she were to attack him. Even in human form, he could take the small creature.

Owen felt something - no, someone - against his leg, and turned curiously to see who it was. Upon finding the small white wolf - who looked even smaller next to him - that could only be Elle, he tensed a bit. He growled when Dyten began taunting the girl. Hoping that Elle wouldn't suddenly attack Dyten, or that if she did, Dyten wouldn't fight back, he answered her question.

"Elle, this is Dyten Gryn. He left to gather information for Rick months before you were turned." He turned to Dyten.

"Dyten, this is Elle, one of the newest youngsters." He said, moving so that any and all ways of getting to the young wolf was blocked by his rather large frame. "She was also turned by Rick, who is still the Alpha, if you don't remember." He growled, making sure that Dyten knew just exactly who had the higher status between him and Elle.

Elle shook her head and then slowly stopped, and nodded. "The man who ran away from his pack for a year, leaving them alone with just one main leader? The one whose viciousness won us battles and then one day he up and left? Oh yeah, I've heard stories. Everyone talks about him like he's an ex-saint, not good anymore, totally crude and rough around the edges to the point of no return." She smiled, showing her white teeth.

Suddenly Owen began speaking and she looked up at him, resting her head on the males side and she frowned. "Why does everyone talk bad about him if he was just.... gathering information, Owen?" She asked innocently and sniffed. Wereleopard. Her dad was coming to get her for the walk home. She probably had another couple of minutes before he was at the gate.

Dyten stood, his hackles raising slightly.

"I was never kicked out of the pack, it was decided that I needed a break. I've been with this pack since I was naught but a child, you Owen have no reason to speak to me like that." His teeth flashed, he stood tall and stared the pair down.

"I have no reason to fight you, this is my home just as much as it is yours. Where is Rick, I must speak with him straight away." he started towards the door, he reminded himself to keep calm but it was hard. He wasn't going to deal with youngsters, wasn't Owen only turned before he left to go on the mission? Well, it was a mission and a holiday all wrapped into one!

Owen felt Elle sniff and understood when he too smelled Wereleopard. He
mentally sighed in exasperation. Dyten wouldn't take kindly to this. He calmly listened to Dyten's outburst and made sure to never lose his cool, even if he was itching for a good fight.

"I have every reason to speak to you like this if you act like the way you do! As much as you want to be, you aren't Rick's right hand anymore, Dyten." He snarled. "I already told you, Rick is busy right now. He can't be disturbed! And as for this being your home as well..." He paused, taking along sniff of the air and exhaling after he inhaled Wereleopard's scent. He looked straight into Rick's eyes as he ground out, "I believe this place stopped being your home the moment you stopped being a part of the pack."

"DAD!" Elle shouted and smiled. "By Owen." She refused to speak to Dyten. owen had made it clear he wasn't welcome. She nuzzled Owens neck with her nose and rubbed against him. "Bye!" She ran and pounced on her father, they left together, the small wolf and the snow leopard.

Owen watched as Elle left with her... father. He wasn't exactly fond of
the fact that she had a Wereleopard as a father, but he couldn't really
do anything about it. He turned to Dyten, cautious and ready for any
type of reaction.

Rick walked through the mansion as he heard, more smelled a new but familiar scent. He quickly walked over seeing Elle leave. "Aww." He thought to himself approaching the male wolves. "Slate, Hello there. And who do we have here" He said circling the other male. "You know you smell familiar, I just can't put my nose on it." He said taunting. "Dyten! How are you my friend? It's been a while, but my I ask why you have returned? You've been gone for a year why come back now if I shall ask?" He said raising an eyebrow at the other wolf. "There is something wrong isn't there Dyten?" He said asking a bit too many questions possibly. Rick contemplated on transforming to his jet black wolf form but decided to wait and play it out.

Owen weighed the thought of turning back into human form before deciding against it. He wasn't so sure about Dyten anymore. He turned to Rick, and lets his tail drop submissively and tucked it between his legs, bumping his head against the side of Rick's hip before turning to look at Dyten.

"He has been demanding to meet with you, and has been rather rude to Elle." He answered, not once letting his gaze off of Dyten. His posture turned from submissive to ready to attack as he waited for Dyten's response.

Dyten's stance softened but remained strong, in a non challenging way when Rick showed up. He was relieved, he didn't want to have to deal with the youngsters just now as it wouldn't be safe. Rolling his eyes, he morphed into his human form while covering his crown jewels.

"Rick, you and I both agreed to the holiday and you said I could have maximum a year off but I had to gather information whilst I was out there. I did, my year was up and I returned. I wasn't kicked out of the pack and you know it.." he sighed, his body was covered in fresh scars from dispatching a particular feral group of Vampire newborns.

[Rick - Adrian.]

Owen watched the two and relaxed a little. Seeing that Rick had everything under control, he curiously turned to his Alpha, "Am I still needed here, Rick?" He didn't really have anything else to do, but he trusted Rick enough to know that he can probably handle Dyten. Besides, he knew that Dyten's report was probably only for the ears of the Alpha, and he respected that.

Rick looked at Owen shaking his head. "No you may leave now Slate. Go make sure everyone is behaving themselves in the mansion for me please?" He said nodding his head. Dyten probably didn't want Owen there anyway when he told him whatever news he had for Rick.

Owen grunted in response. "Alright." He bumped his nose against Rick's hand before turning to leave the two alone, not bothering to spare Dyten a second glance. Maybe a good run would work off the adrenaline that had accumulated.
